In 1997, Rajiv Kafle learned that he was living with HIV. At the time, treatment was inaccessible, stigma was everywhere and the future seemed brutally short. What followed was not a simple journey from illness to triumph. It was a life shaped by addiction and recovery, love and loss, activism and exhaustion, public leadership and private collapse—and by the people who refused to let him disappear.

Moving from Kathmandu to international conferences, community organizations, hospital corridors, government meetings and, finally, a new beginning in America, Living with AIDS tells the human story behind three decades of the HIV response.

This memoir is also an act of gratitude. It remembers the ordinary people whose names may never enter official history, but whose care, courage and persistence changed countless lives.
